The North Halton Celtic Historical Society celebrated today their Incorporation
The North Halton Celtic Historical Society celebrated today their Incorporation meeting today at Ballinafad United Church. It was wonderful to be apart of these celebrations, of local residents joining together to preserve the heritage of our ancestors which formed part of the great town we live in.
The new organization, which takes over from the Friends of Fallbrook Farm, has developed a work plan that would see the original McClure cabin on the Fallbrook site on 27 Side road restored and the later additions on the cabin rebuilt and reused for rental for a caretaker/curator of the property. Halton Hills council is considering placing a historical designation on the 19th century square log house located within the Silver Creek Conservation Area on 27 Side road, as well as the 27 Side road stone arch bridge, and McClure mill site.

What is Eye See... Eye Learn?
Kindergarten children in Halton Schools are able to participate in the Eye See…Eye Learn program.
The Eye See…Eye Learn program was developed to raise awareness among parents of the importance of having their children’s eyes checked before starting school.
Children, who cannot see the board, focus on a picture or follow words in a book may struggle to achieve their full learning potential. Vision problems can also impact their hand-eye coordination for physical activities and even impact their social development. In fact, 80 percent of learning comes directly through vision.
The Ontario Association of Optometrists recognizes the important link between eye health and learning, and recommends comprehensive eye examinations for all children entering kindergarten. The Eye See…Eye Learn program will help make sure our kindergarten students get the best start to learning.
Entry forms are distributed only through kindergarten teachers and are non-transferrable to other children.
Participating children who require a pair of glasses with receive them free of charge courtesy of our participating industry sponsors Bo Optik and HOYA Vision Care.
Vision and Learning
Good vision is an important part of learning...
•80% of classroom learning is done through the eyes
•1 in 6 children have some form of vision problem
•Children with poor vision often find it difficult to focus on their work and may be misdiagnosed as having a learning or behavioural disability
•Good vision is vital to developing skills such as reading, copying and hand eye coordination
Regular eye examinations can identify health problems and conditions such as a turned or lazy eye. These conditions may be treated successfully if they are found early in a child’s life.
Children rarely complain of vision problems, or are even aware of them. Most children believe everyone sees the world like they do.

GTA West Corridor study
The Ministry of Transportation has been looking for solutions to move people and goods throughout the GTA. This proposed project is an 8 lane highway between Brampton and Milton, cutting through our town, which would have negative impact on our rural residents and our farming community. This project would place a lot of pressure to urbanize the area around the highway, thus creating another Georgetown South area, loosing the rural nature and character of our town.
As your ward 2 councillor I will:
Listen to your concerns and bring them forth to council
Ensure that the solution selected dose not interfere with the rural nature & character of our town
Ensure that our farming industry remains viable & sustainable.
Propose alternate solutions to limit the urbanization in our rural areas.
Vision a 'nightmare' | ‘Preferred’ new highway would be ‘devastating’ to town
More information can be found at http://www.gta-west.com/

Wildwood Road Construction
The 2.5 Million dollar reconstruction project on Wildwood Road is almost completed. The project undertaken was over two years with the reconstruction of Wildwood Road from Erin Street to Confederation Street, and the construction of the storm sewer outlet on Erin Street and Credit Street, including the construction of several retaining walls and sidewalks which will be a real pleasure for the residents of Glen Williams.
The construction has changed the look and feel of Wildwood Road, However in the end it will be all worth it, due to flooding and road wash outs over the past many years. The addition of sidewalks and retaining walls makes Wildwood Road a real beauty as well as protecting pedestrians, who use to take their lives in their hands walking down the road.
Norm’s dedication and commitment, demonstrates his passion to make Halton Hills a better place.

Everlast’s Proposal for Barber Mill site
Along the banks of the Credit River is the old Barber Mill historic site. With the passing of time the buildings are deteriorating. A partnership between the developer the Town of Halton Hills and Credit Valley Conservation needs to be created to bring about new life to the area. This area could create new retail outlets, and hotel making it a showcase and tourist destination in our community, while creating local employment opportunities, and restoring a significant part of our past heritage. Purchasing the property by the Town makes no sense at all, when we have a private company who is willing to restore and maintain the property. It’s not in the public’s best interest to purchase this property as the restoration and on going maintance costs would be a heavy load on the tax payers.

New Arena’s
With the retirement of the Memorial Arena in Georgetown, puts a strain on the existing facilities. Halton Hills being a large Hockey town has forced teams to locate to other facilities out of town. We need to ensure that there is plenty of affordable ice time available in our community. Council approved $40,000 for a Functional Servicing Study with respect to the location of any new arena and a detailed work plan and costing for preparing the sites for actual construction of the arenas. This is the start of the necessary work that needs to be done to resolve the arena shortage.
GTA West Corridor Study
The Ministry of Transportation has been looking for solutions to move people and goods thought the GTA. They are now considering 2 alternatives 4-2 and 4-3. We must ensure that whatever option will be chosen does not interfere with the unique nature and character of our community and protect our agriculture land, to ensure that the farming industry remains vibrant and sustainable. Alternative 4-2 is the best solution to limit the impact on our community. For more information: www.gta-west.com
